Simplicius de Cilicie

Simplicius de Cilicie , Greek philosopher of the beginning of 6th century a. J. - C.

Biography

Born in Cilicie (current Turkey), he becomes the disciple of Ammonius and Damascius within the school of Athens founded by the Diadoque Proclus. When the school is closed by the emperor Justinien in 529, it is exiled in Perse with six other philosophers and gains the court of the king philosophizes sassanide, Chosroès I {{er}} (Khosrow I Anushirvan). In 533, it is reconciled with Justinien and is fixed at Alexandria, where it dies in 549.

Work

Simplicius is the author of several comments of Aristote ( Commentaire on the treaty of the sky , Commentaire on Physics , Commentaire on the Categories) as well as comment of the Manuel of Épictète. He is very appreciated by the aristotelicians who follow it and Galileo, wanting to put in scene a character peripatetician in his Dialogo , chooses to call it Simplicio .
