Simplice

Holy Simplice or Simplicius , coming from the area of Tivoli, was pope of March 3rd 468 at March 10th 483.

It passed most of its 15 years of pontificate to fight the Monophysisme. With the assistance of the emperor Zénon, it made recognize the authority of the Concile of Chalcédoine and restore on the seat of Alexandria and on that of Antioche the catholic bishops who had been driven out by it by the Eutychien S in 451.

During its long anguish, he entrusted évêché of Rome and the Church to the prefect of the court Caecina Decius Maximus Basilius the Young person. This one benefitted from its position and the collapse of the Empire to place the Church of Rome under the control of the Senate. With its death, Simplice will be buried in old the Basilique Saint-Pierre.
