Simpleton
Benet is a common French, located in the department of the the Vendée and the area Pays of the Loire.
Its inhabitants is Benetains.

Chief town of canton until year X, the commune of Simpleton is then integrated into the canton of Maillezais.
- the communes of Lesson and Holy-Christine were amalgamated with that of Simpleton in 1972.

Near Fontenay-the-Count (19 km) in the Vendée and of Niort (11 km), Benet opens the way towards:-
the the South-Vendée,
- the Marsh poitevin,
- and, further, the Atlantic littoral .
The diversity of its landscapes, the calcareous plain of Lesson, the marshes of Holy-Christine, Aziré or Nessier, make of it a varied, rich commune of its differences.
Its Holy-Eulalie church, classified historic building, makes of them a stage impossible to circumvent of the churches and Romance abbeys of the south-Vendée.
With a few kilometers one can also visit the splendid site of the Abbaye of Maillezais
A Wind farm was created in 2007 on the site of Lesson, and a second a few months later around the farm of Epineraie. These is on the whole ten wind mills which overhang the commune.

- Gabriel Delaunay (1907-1998), resistant, senior official and French writer. Born and buried with Holy-Christine.
