Presentation

Raise Duccio, it remains deeply influenced by the work of this last, like by the sculptures of Giovanni Pisano and Gothic art French.

One of its first works, recognized by much as its masterpiece is the large fresco of the Maestà , carried out in 1315 for the Palazzo Pubblico of His, and than it restored itself in 1321, because work already was very damaged by moisture.

Between 1312 and 1318, it paints with Assise many frescos of saints of which:

  • Holy Antoine de Padoue

  • Holy François d' Assise
  • Holy Marie-madeleine
  • Holy Claire of Sitted

In 1317, its Saint Louis of Toulouse , financed by Robert of Anjou, reflects the influence of Gothic art . In 1319, it carries out the Polyptyque Holy Catherine with Pisa. In 1328, it paints the fresco of the equestrian portrait of Guidoriccio da Fogliano with the Palazzo Pubblico of His, on the wall opposed to the fresco of the Maestà . In 1333, it signs the Annunciation in collaboration with Lippo Memmi, another Sienan painter.

Simone Martini arrives in France towards 1340 and in 1342; it paints the Christ turning over in her parents after being disputed with the Doctors , subject very little evoked in Peinture.

To Avignon, it binds friendship with Pétrarque and illustrates a Codex Virgile annotated by the poet.

It also carries out Fresque S for the cathedral Notre Dame of Doms to Avignon: the tympanum of the Blessing of the Saver and the Glasses of the Madonna from Humility , both very badly preserved and probably going back to 1341.

Matteo Giovanetti, which painted the frescos of the Palais of the Popes of Avignon, belonged to the school of Simone Martini.

At the 15th century, the sculptor Florentin Lorenzo Ghiberti informs us that the Sienans then regard Simone Martini as their best painter.
