Sir Simon Wiesenthal , KBE was born under the name of Szymon Wiesenthal the December 31st 1908 with Buczacz in Austria-Hungary (today Buchach in Ukraine) and is deceased the September 20th 2005 with Vienna (Austria). It is buried with Herzliya in Israel. It was one of the survivors of the death camps Nazis of the Second world war. It had devoted the remainder of its existence to the tracking of the war criminal Nazis.

It is known to have taken part in the arrest of Adolf Eichmann and 1.100 other war criminals Nazis grace in particular to the Center which bears its name, having for goal to centralize information on the victims of the Holocauste, as of those which took part in its implementation.

Biography

Simon Wiesenthal was born in a family from Jewish tradesmen in Galicie, a province of the old Austro-Hungarian empire, which it will have to leave at seven years following the arrival of the Cosaques. He studies the Architecture with Lemberg, then with Prague.

From September 17th, 1939 to June 22nd, 1941. The town of Lwow or it lives is occupied by the Red Army.

Arrived of the German troops which had just invaded the USSR upsets its life like many others Jewish and it is stopped in 1941. It will be interned in all in five death camps, which it will leave the May 5th 1945. It lost at the time of these black years 89 members of its family.

Hunting with the war criminals

Contrary to much of others, it did not take again the occupation which it followed pre-war period, but devoted itself to the research of the Nazi criminals, becoming the most famous hunter of Nazis, the conscience and the voice, not only of the six million Jewish victims of Shoah, but also of the million other victims also assassinated by the Nazi regime.

When one questions it on the reasons which justified this obsessional hunting, Wiesenthal explains: When the history makes a return on the past, I want that people know that the Nazis could not kill out of the million people, and then to draw some like that . Its action is a work of memory and a warning statement for the future generations.

The Center Simon Wiesenthal was founded in November 1977. Today, with the Museum of the tolerance of world famous, it is an international center, extremely of 400.000 members, dedicated to the memory of Shoah, with the defense of the Human rights and the Jewish people. With its representations distributed in the whole world, the Center Simon Wiesenthal continues a permanent fight against the Fanatisme, the Antisémitisme, the Racisme and the Intolérance.

It undertakes an action plan provided on contemporary subjects connected to these topics. I received many honors during my life, declares Mr. Wiesenthal. When I die, these honors will disappear with me. But the Center Simon Wiesenthal will survive me like my heritage .

It died out at the 96 years age.

The Center Simon Wiesenthal has an office with Paris in France, directed in March 2005 by Dr. Shimon Samuels.

There will remain however an interrogation concerning the benevolent attitude of Simon Wiesenthal with regard to Kurt Waldheim, former member of SA and officer of Wehrmacht which would have been made guilty of the assassination of hundreds of people, women and children included/understood, in Yugoslavia and in Italy. Waldheim, who following the example many former Austrian Nazis, made to a national and international career while becoming secretary-general of UNO then president of the Austrian republic. The detractors of Simon Wiesenthal affirmed that it blocked the investigations against Waldheim, never said to him not to have found an evidence concrete on the responsibility for Waldheim.
