Simon Vouet
Simon Vouet , born with Paris the January 9th 1590, deceased in the same city the June 30th 1649 was a French painter.
After a long stay in Italy (1615 - 1627) where it will be named with the head of the Academy St Luc (1624), Simon Vouet imports into France the style Italian baroque, and in particular the manner of Paul Véronèse, that it adapts to great decorations of the time of Louis XIII and Richelieu. It was also First painter of the King. A great number as of its important decorative works (Castle of Chilly, Séguier Hotel) unfortunately disappeared.
Simon Vouet is the emblem of a French painting Baroque. “If the Brown one, David or, in a certain way, Delacroix existed, it is that there was initially Simon Vouet” , known as Denis Lavalle, inspector as a chief of the monuments historiques.
