Simon Rattle
Sir Simon Rattle is a British Leader , born the January 19th 1955 with Liverpool. It became famous with the head of the City off Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and is since 2002 musical director of the Philharmonic orchestra of Berlin.
Career
Formation
Simon Rattle begins her musical studies with the Piano and the Violon, but occupies a first use of musician of orchestra like Percussionniste. In 1971, it enters to the Royal Academy off Music of London where it frequently directs. In 1974, the year of its diploma, it gains the Assistance of leader John-Player ( John Player Conducting Competition ). After having gone up and leads remarkable a Second Symphony of Mahler whereas it is still with the Academy, it is noticed by the musical agent Martin Campell-White, which manages its career since then.

He becomes successively leader assisting of the Symphony orchestra of Bournemouth in 1974 then of the Philharmonic orchestra of Liverpool in 1977. However, it is its engagement with the Symphony orchestra of Birmingham ( City off Birmingham Symphony Orchestra , CBSO) 1980 with 1998 which reveals it with the critical and with the public. When it leaves the orchestra, it is one of the chiefs most considered and the CBSO one of the best orchestras in the world.
Philharmonic orchestra of Berlin
In 1999, Simon Rattle is designated as successor of Claudio Abbado with the head of the Philharmonic orchestra of Berlin, generally considered as one of the most prestigious stations in the world. Its nomination, decided by a vote of the musicians, caused some controversies because certain more preserving members of the orchestra marked their preference for Daniel Barenboim.
Nevertheless, Rattle carries it and undertakes to convince its detractors while refusing to sign his contract as long as it would not have the insurance that all the musicians of the orchestra would see their wages increased after several years of stagnation. It also obtains that the orchestra is transformed into a foundation, Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker, which does not touch any more public allocations and has the full control of its activities.
Its first concert takes place the September 7th 2002 with Asyla of Thomas Adès and the Fifth Symphony of Gustav Mahler. This service is worth enthusiastic criticisms of the international press to him. The concert was diffused in CD and DVD by EMI.
It also succeeds Claudio Abbado with the head of the Festival of Easter of Salzburg, where it directs the Philharmoniker in Fidelio of Beethoven (2003), Così fan tutte of Mozart (2004), Peter Grimes of Britten (2005) and Pelléas and Mélisande of Debussy (2006). A Anneau of Nibelung of Wagner is announced for 2007-2010, that Rattle will also direct to the International festival of lyric art of Aix-en-Provence.
Direction
Rattle has a varied repertory including some directions with instruments of time, but it is especially known for its interpretations of the type-setters of the beginning of the 20th century. Its recording of the Second Symphony of Mahler obtained several rewards and one holds it for one of his best recordings. It was also made the champion of the modern music.
