Simon Goulart
Simon Goulart (Senlis, 1543 - Geneva, 1628) is a Théologien and Humaniste French.
He studies the Droit to Paris. Having embraced the reformed religion, Senlisien takes refuge in March 1566, with Geneva, where it is received minister of religion. In 1570 it marries Suzanne Picot. In 1589, it accompanies the army by Geneva during the war against the Savoy. In 1595, he preaches against Henri IV. He succeeds Theodore de Bèze with the load of regulator of the Company of the Pastors, of 1607 with 1612.
This humanistic translated Plutarque and Xénophon. It writes a Trésor of admirable stories (Geneva, 1620), historical Mémoires on the " League " .
- Into 1580, it translates lHistoire of Portugal of Osorius (Jeronymo Osorio de Fausaca) and of Lopez de Castanheda. The epistle dédicatoire with Nicolas Pithou starts as follows: " SIR, I think well that those which conoissent us will find estrange and badly seant of premium face, that I aye put the hand at ceste history, to communicate it to nostre nation: and that having esté dedicated by Osorius to a Prince, I present now it to you. As for this first point, I do not deny only during the time employed with this labor I pouvoy vacquer with more serious things, better agreeing with my estudes, and cleaner with my vocation." In 1581, it gives a alphabetical Commentaire ( Indice ) of Sepmaine (the Week) of Guillaume of Bartas which is published in an increased edition of the Gascon poet. In 1589, in the same editor (Jacques Chouet, Geneva), it again publishes this comment, nouveau riche of additional remarks. On his side, the catholic Pantaléon Thévenin comments on to him also this vast encyclopedic poet.
