Simon Bouer

A sculptor of talent

Simon Bouer is a wood-carver originating in the borough of Menat (current Puy-de-Dôme). It passed to the posterity to have realized with its workshop, at the time of two campaigns at the end of the 17th century, the superb woodworks of the Abbaye of Moutier-in Ahun, remarkable testimonys of the Baroque art in province at that time.

The name of " Bouer" (that one would undoubtedly spell today " Bouet") was sometimes included/understood like " Bauer" , which led formerly certain scholars to suppose, well wrongly, who it was of Alsatian origin.
