Simha Arom is a ethnomusicologist free-Israeli. Recognized as expert of the musics of central Africa, in particular that of the Central African Republic.

Fields of research

It is in the years 1964 - 65 that it has its first contacts with the Pygmy S, whose serenity allures it. It will return to visit the Aka every year of 1971 with 1987, and endeavors to preserve their music, conscious that the fast modification of the lifestyles threatens perenniality of the musics which accompany them.

Beyond Africa, Simha Arom was more generally interested, with the musics of oral tradition: Hebraic liturgy, Bouzouki, music of the Ethiopian Jewish . It carried out several recordings and films, and published many works on its subjects of research: Polyphony S and Polyrythmie S of central Africa, cognitive aspects of the musics of Oral tradition,…
