Simbad is a service of the Data center astronomical of Strasbourg which makes it possible the Astronome S easily to know the basic properties (coordinated, magnitude S, Parallaxe if it is available) of each object listed in an astronomical catalog. Simbad also contains a resolvor of names, thus making it possible to know all the other names of the object considered, since all the astronomers always do not use the same names.

A similar service dedicated for the extragalactic objects (and thus mainly the Galaxy S) exists in the United States: the NASA Extragalactic Database (NED).
