SimCity 4: Hour rush
September 22nd, 2003 (That is to say nearly 9 months after the original), Maxis left a Add one (additional Disc) for SimCity, called Rush-Hour. Requiring the original version of the play to settle, Maxis created a version containing all the necessary one (original Play + Rush Hour) in a pack called SimCity 4 Deluxe. Aspyr Media launched the version Mac with nearly one year of delay on the version Windows de Simcity 4 Deluxe, before the single extension.
Improvements
Rush Hour proposes many improvements with the original play, mainly centered on the field of transport. They include:-
Of the avenues : A " twice two voies" , of capacity thus doubled, in each direction, compared to a traditional road. The directions are separated by an island of greenery adapting to the level from richness of the adjacent districts.
- Of the roads with one ways : A " once two voies" , with one way thus, of capacity doubles compared to a traditional road.
- Of the highways on the ground : Equivalent to the air highways included in the original version of the play in term of size and capacity, they are much less expensive with construction. On the other hand, they are more difficult to envisage for the connection of the roads, street, avenues, rails…
- Of the monorails : An overhead grid allowing the circulation of express trains.
- Of the air rails : Air version of the subway, a special intersection allowing from now on to inter-connect the underground grid with the new overhead grid.
- Of tolls : Being able to be placed on any road, avenue or highway (not on the roads with one ways!), they generate each month a sum proportional to the traffic. On the other hand, if they arrive at saturation, they slow down the traffic.
- Of the carparks : To go to foot to the subway station? Not, thanks to the public carparks…
- Of the ferries : Passengers or vehicles, from now on, it there with the possibility, with lower costs, to connect several banks of a city… and even beyond (takes into account the concept of area).
This Add one also includes architectural styles (4). I.e. from now on it there with the possibility of creating cities with the European pace, the way of Chicago in 1890… One finds also new buildings, new parameters to be regulated like various improvements with the jouability (Gameplay), including/understanding new catastrophes (UFOs, attacks robots) and new numerical models of the ground.
One of the functions first of Hour Rush is U-Drive-It. It is a mode in which the players can take the control of the cars, bus, planes, boats… of its own city. In short, practically all the vehicles which run, fly or float in a city. Missions are also proposed (allowing to take down rewards, a new building for example), like " To help cats using a truck of pompiers" , or even " To inaugurate commerces" (With the limousine of the house of the mayor…). All these possibilities of interactions were gathered in the Sim Mode, which obtains for the occasion a tool " Microphone" , which makes it possible to question any Simcitoyen of a city, simply while clicking to him above (Its thoughts post in the forms of symbols, well-known players of the play Sims).
Another function of Hour Rush is the tool information traffic with which from now on it there with the possibility, of a simple click, knowing how much people pass on a road, a railway, if those use the bus, and which are their various destinations… While clicking on a residence, one can see where will work those which live there, and which are their various means of transport. This tool supplements the tool " Information" traditional. Thus, it becomes thus possible to create " Bis" routes; reliable, allowing to relieve congestion certain roads.
Unfortunately, this tool has some problems: sometimes, the number of people indicated by the tool as taking the road is different from the number of people indicated by the tool " Information" standard (the number of anybody of a dwelling does not correspond to that of the road). The time of update of the tool is too long. It can also indicate very astonishing ways (As vehicles which cross a place without road, or even which " sautent" of a highway to go in the adjacent building, while at the same time there is no exit…) or not to indicate a way of the whole, whereas there is traffic.
