Silvretta

The solid mass of Silvretta is a solid mass of the the central Eastern Alps. It rises between the Austria (Vorarlberg and the Tyrol) and the Suisse (Canton of the Grisons). It draws its name from a central top of the solid mass.

It belongs to the the rhetic Alps.

The Piz Linard is the culminating point of the solid mass.

Geography

Situation

The solid mass is located at the north of the Low-Engadine and is surrounded by the Massif of Verwall in north, the Massif of Samnaun in the east, the Chaîne of Sesvenna in south-east, the Chaîne of Albula in south-west, the Chaîne of Plessur in the west, and the Rätikon in the North-West.

Geology

The rocks critallines which composed the area of the current solid mass underwent during its rising a fort Métamorphisme. Thus one finds there mainly Gneiss rich in Mica, Granite clearly and Amphibolite S.
