Silver nitrate

The Nitrate of money has as an empirical formula: Ag NR O 3

The equation of its dissolution in the Eau is: AgNO3 → Ag+ (aq) + NO3- (aq)

It is in particular used in the reactive of Tollens for tests of recognition of the Aldéhyde S.

It is also employed to identify the ions Chlorure Cl- (It is formed a white precipitate which blackens with the light).

It is an external disinfectant, caustic function.

Nitrate and the Halide S of money - Bromide, Chloride and Iodure of money blackens after exposure to the light: they are employed in the emulsion S for the photographic plates, film and paper. Their salts are soluble in the Thiosulfate of sodium, made up used in the photographic process of fixing.
