Silo of Asturies
Silo (? - 783, Pravia) was king of Asturies of 774 with 783.
It Maria with Audesinde, girl of the king Alphonse Ier the Catholic, king of the Asturies, and downward direct of Pélage (what made it possible Silo to be elected to succeed Aurelio, cousin of Audesinde, the role of the women being important at the time, allowing the succession matrilinéal, of father-in-law with son-in-law).
The document writes oldest that one knows dated August 23rd, 775, the diploma of king Silo, where this last made gift with nuns of properties located in a place called Lucis .
Silo established the capital with Pravia. This last belonged to the local aristocracy and had grounds there. This change was as strategic, Pravia being geographically closer to the Roman Voie Asturica Augusta as the old capital Cangas de Onis, and especially the latter, and since the widening of the kingdom to the Galicia, was from now on too offset.
During the reign of Silo the second rebellion of the Galicians occurred, whom it subjects at the time of the battle of the Mount-Cubeiro (province of Lugo).
Peace with Arabic would have been maintained thanks to the influence of his/her mother, of origin Moor.
Silo dies in Pravia into 783. Without descent, all seemed to indicate that Alphonse (future Alphonse II of Asturies), wire of Fruela Ier and nephew of Audesinde (which proclaimed it king with dead of her husband) would be the successor with the throne, but a revolt allowed his/her uncle Mauregat, wire naturalness of Alphonse Ier and a maidservant of origin Moor, to reach the throne. Audesinde, from now on without supports within the court, finished these days with the convent of Midsummer's Day de Pravia. Silo and Audesinde are both buried in the church préromane of Santianes de Pravia (Santianes).
