Silly Symphonies

The Silly Symphonies (litt. " Symphonies idiotes" ) is a series of animated Court-measurings produced between 1929 and 1939 by the studios Disney. Contrary to the cartoons putting in scene Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Nutcase or Pluto, the Silly Symphonies did not have recurring characters. The stories take especially their sources in the European and American popular tales.

Beyond its artistic interest, the series was used for the organizers of the Disney studios of true laboratory, in order to develop various techniques of animation (like the Caméra multiplane) réutiliseés later in the feature films.

The televised series Mickey Mouse Works (1999-2001) re-used regularly the name Silly Symphonies like titrates certain court-measurings but with the difference in the originals, those contained recurring characters.

Donald Duck made his first appearance in a Silly Symphony : a small advised hen in 1934.

Names of the animated series of the competitor studios Warner Bros., Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies are directly inspired by the concept of Disney.

The “not-official ones”

Starting from 1938, Disney produces court-measurings not being stamps Silly Symphonies . The amateurs of animation however compare these productions to the Silly Symphonies and speak about it like " successeurs" or of " non-officielles". The largest part of these films dates from the years 1950. Thereafter, other court-measurings " " atypiques" were also compared to the Silly Symphonies .
