The Silent majority designates a majority of people of a group, an organization or a nation having, freely or under the constraint, an unexpressed opinion.

This expression is generally opposed, in debates of opinion, with dominant arguments which would be only the supposed reflection of a minority which is expressed.

Thus, when a lobby claims to have several thousands of signatures (for a petition) or of demonstrator (for a demonstration), it may be that the majority of the country, often preserving, is of an opposite opinion.
