Silent block

A silent block or silentbloc , or, more generally, silent block literally (, in English: quiet block ) is a part made up of a flexible Matériau making it possible to absorb Choc S and Vibration S between bodies Mécanique S and a structure which supports them.

For example, one soundproofs the operation of a Moteur by isolating it from the metal reinforcement which maintains it by silent blocks. Idem for the fixing of a line of exhaust; one uses silents blocks which absorb the vibrations of the latter

Blocks silent can be in rubber, Plastic or other materials answering criteria of elasticity and damping of the impulses which they receive.

They are generally used in compression: they support with the several weight of the part moving, in sandwich with the carrying structure. An attachment unit can possibly be added to prevent the mechanical part from leaving its housing, but in this case it is necessary to couple it with a Ressort.
