Silent Hill 2 is a play of action-ventures of type Survival horror developed by Konami THIS Tokyo and left in 2001 on PlayStation 2. The play was related to Xbox in a subtitled version In Fears and was republished in a version Director' S cut on PlayStation 2 and Windows in 2002.
The play belongs to the series Silent Hill.
Synopsis
About a rest area, with the doors of Silent Hill, James Sunderland wonders. How his late wife could well forward to him a letter? " Join me in our place with nous." What can that mean? Malayan confusion and it reign in its esprit.
James from now on with is crossroads. To discover the truth, it will have to be inserted in the thick fog of the city and to overcome the unnamable nightmares which live it.
Gameplay
The
Gameplay of the play evolved/moved little compared to the first episode. the handiness of the character remains puffing, certain enigmas are drawn by the hair and the progression remains rather traditional (doors closed to open). The
gameplay has however the merit to reinforce the immersion of the player while giving an account of the fragile humanity of the hero (badly ensured step, limited endurance, precarious field of view…).
Realization
Left at the end of 2001 on
PlayStation 2,
Silent Hill 2 car left the capacities of the console, at the point to give to certain sequences an aspect photorealist. Textures of the decorations and the creatures more detailed much, the light effects seizing, the fog which chokes the streets of the city, the granulous aspect of the image: all these graphic elements sublimate the ideas of settings in scene already present in the first opus and will impress many players/spectators accustomed to the large pixels of the preceding generation of consoles.
Scenario
The history of
Silent Hill 2 does not have a direct link with the first episode. More worked than in the preceding opus, the scenario plunges the player in the middle of the interior storm of its hero. James holds a secrecy which corrodes it. To live or die? to fight or give up? to accept or deny? such are the choices with which he will be finally confronted.
While progressing in the embrumées streets of the city, James meets other characters. Like, each one has to him a share of madness and innocence, which returns them all terrifying and attaching at the same time.
Silent Hill 2 is a history of Rédemption. The player is projected in a universe resulting from the tormented brain of James Sunderland. The player follows this good man in his combat against his own demons and learns some a little more on its psychic Traumatisme as it is inserted (literally) in the entrails of the city and thus, by association, of sound Inconscient.
Mary, his wife, was irremediably reached of a disease and James, to relieve his sufferings, choked it with a cushion on his bed of hospital. Consequently, he lives in the culpability, the remorse, the pain, repression. The places which he will visit will be heavy significances (the cemetery, the hospital, the prison, the lake, the hotel…) and the characters met will learn to him a little more on itself (a victim of rape, an assassin, a young girl with whom Mary had bound of friendship to the hospital and Maria, erotic lining of Mary). During all the progression, the creators make go down and fall the player (of the interminable staircases and the pits in which James throws himself) until the last sequence where it assembles the steps of an immense structure of iron in order to join the ruin where the final duel against Mary (or Maria according to the way will be achieved who had the player to progress in the play) démonifiée.
Silent Hill 2 swarms with details of Mise in scene which do one of the rare plays of it to be able to be analyzed with the manner of a film. So much by plays take as a starting point the cinema by including scenes in synthesized image or while picking of the ideas of scenario, Silent Hill is further amalgamating the two media.
The intentions of its creators are clear: to make a Video game which is also a work of art.
