Silas Deane (born the December 24th 1737 - died the September 23rd 1789) is a politician and an American diplomat .

Relate to the Guerre of American independence 1775 - 1783). 1778 - Arrived to France to negotiate an alliance, Benjamin Franklin was accepted officially at the Court of Versailles on March 21st, 1778; it was accompanied by two other Americans by his delegation: Silas Deane and Arthur Lee.

During its stay, it obtained the signature of a treaty of friendship between the France and the United States (February 6th, 1778).

According to this treaty, American could sell their goods in several French ports and, the two countries engaged, on a purely defensive basis, not to conclude from separate peace (with the England).

Silas Deane in France , of the printed manuscripts with Philadelphia for the Seventy-Six Society (p. 16) gives information on the processes of the American police chiefs to Paris. Arthur Lee, p. 170, shows Deane of lightness and vanity with regard to the French officers. Deane, p. 65, praise its control.
