Tony James, former leader of Generation X (with Billy Idol), thus sets up his musical project inspired by David Bowie, Suicide, The Sex Pistols, or Alan Vega.

The concept is articulated around a vision of the future, the result of a Cyber-Punk crossing between Ziggy Stardust, Iggy Pop and Elvis Presley, the electronic whole version. Here is the original idea of the British group Sigue Sigue Sputnik .

Whereas they take the media like playing field and are found regularly in the headings with scandals of the newspapers people, their title worship and first individual, Love Missile F1-11 reached the third place in the British charts in 1986. It only contains with him all the characteristics of the sound " Sputnik" : Limp at rates/rhythms, samples of classical musics, and a multitude of sound effects. Love Missile F1-11 will obtain, of the years later, the supreme dedication while being taken again by David Bowie in person.

The first album Flaunt it left in the tread will have the characteristic to be punctuated advertizing passages between the pieces. Sigue Sigue Sputnik intrigues the media from their commercial step and their removed from rim looks.

But the shelf of the second album, Dress for excess , will be difficult to avoid. And this in spite of the presence of a title produced by the makers of tubes very to the mode in 1988, Aitken Stock and Waterman. Sigue Sigue Sputnik disappears then from the front of the scene.

Then open a period of sleep during which several compilations transfer the day with different remix and sometimes of the news. The group seemed dead until Tony James, while surfant on Internet, discovered that there existed always a deep popular passion for Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

It reanimated its project in 2001 with the album Pirate Space which marked the return of Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

In 2002, the album Black Elvis was an astonishing homage to King with the Sputnik sauce.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik forever hidden its influences and often made particularly astonishing recoveries as it was the case with the title of Prince I could never take the place off your man which is reproduced on compilations of electro recoveries.

It is finally in 2003 qu ' appears their last album marketed in the traditional circuit: Ultra Real .

2004 mark the end of collaboration with their singer Martin Degville who launched out after a preceding attempt in 1992 with the album War World Four in a career solo under the name of Sputnik2.
