Sigmund Jähn
Sigmund Werner Paul Jähn (born the February 13rd 1937) was the first German Spationaute . In 2001, the asteroid 17737 was baptized Sigmund Jähn in its honor.
It joined into 1955 the forces East-German Naval Aviation , where it becomes pilot and military scientist. Between 1966 and 1970, it studies with the Academy of the forces Naval Aviation of Monino in Soviet Union then works in the administration of the East-German military aviation, as a person in charge of and the safety pilot training of vol.
In 1976, it is selected with Eberhard Köllner to involve itself to become the first cosmonaut program Intercosmos. It is involved with the Cité of the stars close to Moscow during the two years which follow, and finally flies away aboard vehicle Soyuz 31 for the Soviet Space station Salyut 6, and returns on board Soyuz 29. In all it spends 7 days, 20 hours, and 49 minutes in space. Quickly after its return in GDR it goes to the military base of Prenzlau or was the center of cartography of the NVA to deliver the important ones to it given gained during the mission.
In 1983 it receives a doctorate of physique in the “Zentralinstitut für Physik der Erde” with Potsdam, while specializing in the teledetection of the phenomena terrestes.
Starting from 1990, (after the Reunification of Germany) it works in freelance as a consultant for German Space agency (West German in the past) DLR, and starting from 1993 also for ESA for the preparation of the missions Euromir. In 2002 it ceases working.
Jähn, interpreted by Stefan Walz, appears in the film Good Bye Lenin! (2003).
