Sigiswald Kuijken is a Violoniste and Leader Belgian, born in 1944 with Dilbeek (close to Brussels)

Biography

He studies with the academies of Bruges and Brussels where he obtains its first price of violin in 1964. At the seven years age, it has its first contact with instruments of the Rebirth. But it is only in 1969 that it starts to be directed towards the old instruments.

Of 1971 with 1996, he is professor of Violon baroque with the academy of $the Hague, then with the conservatory of Brussels since 1993. In 1972 it founds with Gustav Leonhardt unit baroque “Small Band” (name inspired of the unit that Lully directed), with which he records innumerable works of large German, French Masters and Italian of XVIIe and XVIIIe centuries: Muffat, Corelli, Bach, Branch, Mozart, Couperin…

He often worked, in his repertory of Baroque music, with the Claveciniste S Gustav Leonhardt and. His/her two brothers, Barthold Kuijken (Flute) and Wieland Kuijken (Violoncello and Viola da gamba), are also musicians of international repute.

In 1986, it founds the Quatuor Kuijken with which it is devoted to the traditional repertory.

With his colleagues Reinhard Goebel with Cologne and Eduard Melkus with Vienna, it was one of the first large pedagogs of the Violon baroque.
