Sigismond of Sweden (in Swedish Sigismund, in Polish Zygmunt, Lithuanian Zigmantas Vaza) and Sigismond III of Poland , (June 20th 1566 - April 19th 1632), was the son of Jean III of Sweden and king at the same time of the Sweden (1592-1599) and of the Poland (1587-1632). In 1599, it lost the crown of Sweden however when it was relieved by his uncle, the duke Charles, the future king Charles IX.

There remained king de Pologne and large duke of Lithuania until in 1632.

Sigismond, grandson of Gustave Vasa - which had imposed the Réforme in Sweden - had many merits with the crown of the République of the Two Nations (linking Poland and the catholic Lithuania) by the line of his/her mother, Catherine Jagellon, wife of Jean III, although the dynasty of the Jagellon reigned on Poland of 1386 with 1572.

He was elected king de Pologne and large duke of Lithuania the August 19th 1587 by the Diète, with of the “Almighty” Grand Hetman Jan Zamoyski supports, and of the queen-widow Anne Jagiellon, wife of the last king-elected official Etienne Ier Bathory and recognized as king by the regent, the primacy of Poland Stanislas Karnkowski. It had to overcome the rebellion of the powerful family of the tycoon S of Zborowski, with the first term, and other candidate with the royal throne, Maximilien III of Austria.

In short, he was elected king of Poland in 1587 until his death in 1632, (45 years), and hereditary king of Sweden of 1592 until 1599, date of his deposition by his uncle, (7 years). Without any doubt, he was a more important monarch for Poland than he was it for Sweden. With Warsaw the “Column of Sigismond” honors its memory. It moved the capital of Cracow in Warsaw, it widened the fields of Poland and its troops, under the command of Alexandre Gosiewski de Korwin, occupied the the Kremlin with Moscow during two years.
