Sight reading
Lire at sight (or to decipher at sight ) means lira partition in an immediate way, without needing to think of it (reading comparable with that of a text in a language controlled by the reader). That does not presuppose of the interior Audition of the reader - of its capacity to represent the sounds corresponding to the notes and indications read, but only of its capacity to identify (to name) the notes and indications.
Jouer at sight consists to interpret this partition of it on an instrument, in an immediate way. The sight reading as well as the control of the instrument are necessary. The interior Audition is necessary only if intrument requires it (nonmoderate instruments). Chanter at sight consists in singing the melody line only thanks to its partition, i.e. without to have heard the melody as a preliminary. The interior ear is then requested, because to represent the height of the sound is necessary to sing it.
Training of the sight reading and the song at sight
The sight reading is conditioned only by the level of Solfège of the reader. There exist several approaches making it possible to associate this reading with the interior Audition. It are not antagonistic but complementary.
Tonal approach
It is the most current approach. It consists of the memorizing of scales. Thus, by reading a partition, the reader reminds the relative heights of the various degrees compared to the tonic considered. If it tonic is not given while the reader does not have the absolute pitch, the result of this reading is right all the same, but is transposed. This is not problematic because it is then enough to transpose once known it tonic.
Intervallic approach
This approach consists of the training and the recognition of different the intervals as such, independently of all scale of reference.
