Sigefroy of Luxembourg

Sigefroy of the Ardennes , born towards 922, died in 998, was the first count of a territory which was going to become the county of Luxembourg. It was wire of Wigéric, count de Bigdau, then Count Palatine of Lotharingie, and Cunégonde.

From his father, it accepted goods in High-Lotharingie. In order to protect them effectively, it made build in 963 in the center of its fields a fortress, which is the castle of Luxembourg. A city was created quickly around the castle.

It carried the title of count, but it was one of its descendants, Guillaume which was entitled later 150 years count de Luxembourg . He was also acknowledged Saint-Maximin abbeys of Trêves and Saint-Willibrod of Echternach.

He married towards 950 Hedwige de Nordgau (937 † 992), girl of Ebberhard IV, count de Nordgau, and had:
