Sigebert Havercamp
Sigebert Havercamp (1684-1742) was a traditional philologist, a Dutch numismatist and professor.
of Greek of
Born with Utrecht, it was some time minister of the Évangile. It was called in 1721 with the Université of Leyde, where it professed there the history, the eloquence and the Greek, and there trained a rich person cabinet of medals.
One has of him, inter alia:
- an edition of the Apologetic of Tertullien, Leyde, 1718
- an edition of De Rerum Natura of Lucrèce , Amsterdam, 1725. This edition was drawn with 820 specimens reserved to the subscribers: it constitutes a bibliophilic scarcity because it is regarded as the first signed edition, limited and numbered history of the Imprimerie.
- an edition of the Breviarium Historiæ Romanæ of Eutrope, Leyde, 1729
- an edition of Salluste , Amsterdam, 1742.
- an edition of Censorinus , Leyde, 1743
It published moreover:
- Dissertationes de Alexandri magni numismatist , 1722
- Thesaurus Morelliantes , 1734;
- History explained by the medals , 1736 (in Dutch);
- Sylloge scriptorum of linguae grecae pronunciatione , 1736-1740;
- Introductio in antiquitates romanas , 1740.
