Sierre

Sierre ( German Siders in ) is a commune Suisse District of Sierre in the Canton of Were worth. Located in the valley of the the Rhone at 15 km upstream of Sion it is the second plus big city of the canton.

Considered to be the sunniest city of Swiss, it is called the quoted of the Sun , from where the escutcheon of the sun on the flag. It made beautiful there more than 300 days per annum.

History

Economy

The city took its rise at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to the development of the hydro-electricity, with the establishment of an aluminum industry and with the opening of many workshops of craft industry. Aluminum factories (Alcan and Novelis (In the past Alusuisse)) occupy nearly 1200 people with Sierre and Chippis. As of the years 1980, the creation of the specialized companies in data processing and the communication gave fresh impulse to the economic activities. The site Techno-pole, now named TechnoArk, account nearly 48 national companies and international, of which Start-up. Information technologies of tomorrow are invented there. The principal companies of the city are Alcan, Novelis and the Groupe Valaisan Dairy Federation (Valcrème and Vallait).
