Siegsdorf

Siegsdorf is a small village in the middle of the Chiemgau, in High-Bavaria, in the district Traunstein.

History

In 1934 Untersiegsdorf and Obersiegsdorf were joined together in a commune. In 1972, the communes of Eisenärzt and Vogling and finally in 1978 that of Hammer are added there.

The first colonization probably goes back to the 8th century. The chalk-lining of Sieghartinger gives the name to Siegsdorf at the 11th century. A large character in the history of Siegsdorf is the singer Tannhäuser 13th century represented in the fountain in the center of the village.
For a long time, Siegsdorf was on the line of transport of the salt between Bad Reichenhall and Rosenheim. In 1896 Siegsdorf is attached to railway line uniting Traunstein and Ruhpolding.
An event was the discovery into 1985 of a fossil of Mammouth.
