Sidney Ribaux

Sidney Ribaux is cofounder and general coordinator of Équiterre, an organization dedicated to the promotion of ecological choices and socially persons in charge.

Biography

Lawyer of formation, Sidney Ribaux founded Équiterre with some colleagues in 1993 and chaired his board of directors until 1998. Since, it occupies the post of general coordinator of the organization what leads it to take part in the development, the implementation and the financing of the whole of the strategies and the projects of Équiterre on the equitable trade, local and biological agriculture, energy, transport, the climate changes, responsible consumption and the durable building. Impassioned town planning, it also chaired, of 1996 to 2003, the District council of the environment of Montreal, a regrouping of 100 active organizations on questions of urban ecology. It contributed to the efforts of the coalitions citizens in favor of the financing of public transport and the ratification of the protocol of Kyoto by Canada.

Whereas it was responsible for the file of energy for Option consumers (1992-1998), it contributed to the setting-up of a national plan of energy efficiency targeted for people with low-income. It sat or took part voluntarily in several tables, groups and boards of directors.

He is currently administrator, since 2002, and chair, since 2004, of the Funds of Québécois action for sustainable development. He is the author of several articles and documents on energy, transport, responsible consumption and the climate changes. It acts like lecturer and is interviewed by the media regularly.
