Sidney Govou

Sidney Govou , born the July 27th 1979 with the Puy-en-Velay, is a French professional footballer of Beninese origin .

Biography

Course in club

Holder of a scientific vat, Sidney Govou came tardily to football. He indeed integrates the training center of the OL into the 17 years age (1996). Faithful and attached to its formative club, Sidney plays since its beginnings within the Olympic Lyonese.

Sidney was made known general public during season 2000/2001, in particular thanks to a splendid match against the Bayern of Munich in Ligue of the champions where he was the author of one doubled. At the end of this season, he was elected better hope at the time of the trophies UNFP.

At the time of the season 2004-2005, Paul Le Guen entrusts the arm-band of captain to him during the long wound of the usual captain of the team, Claudio Caçapa. The choice of Paul Le Guen is explained by the fidelity of Sidney to its formative club.

For three seasons, its name has returned regularly on the market of the transfers because it does not hide that an experiment abroad would interest it. Until now, Sidney Govou however always wished to prolong its Lyons adventure. In 2006, it prolongs its contract with the Olympic Lyonese until 2010.

Govou honors its first selection on August 21st, 2002 against Tunisia. It counts 30 selections (7 goals) without however never managing to gain a place of indisputable holder.

In 2004, it is not selected for the Euro 2004 in Portugal. The wound of Ludovic Giuly before the beginning of this competition offers opportunity to him of integrating the team of France. It will not take part however in any match of this adventure. In 2006, a similar context is worth to him also to be called by Raymond Domenech to take part in the World cup 2006. It replaces then Djibril Cissé, victim of a double fracture tibia-fibula with the right leg at the time of a match of preparation against China.

Its principal blow of glare in team of France east her doubled against the team of Italy (victory of France 3-1) on September 6th, 2006. Govou had been established by Raymond Domenech whereas it had not disputed yet the least minute of competition with the team first of the Olympic Lyonese.
