Biography

Sidney Gilliat started to write without much success about 1927 and more particularly as a scenario writer, by rehabilitating traditional films such as: The Ghost Train (the phantom train) (1931), Rome Express train (the express one of Rome) (1932) and Bulldog Jack (Bulldog Jack) (1935). Later it joins Frank Launder, both as scenario writers and a draft of success starts to come up.

Their collaboration ends up being confined of: Seven Sinners (Seven Sinners) (1936), a woman disappears (1938) (The Lady Vanishes) of Alfred Hitchcock, Night Train to Munich (1940) realized by Carol Reed and The Young Mr. Pitt (Young Mr. Pitt) (1942). As from 1945, Sidney Gilliat and Frank Launder found their own company of production, and produce a series of excellent dramatic films and with suspense, including/understanding the superb films The Rake' S Progress (1945), I See has Dark Stranger (1946) and Green for Danger (1946).

While Frank Launder diriga towards suspense and the intrigue, Gilliat sought another destination, that of ironic films. The examples are given by the publication of: The Green Man (1956), Left Right and Center (1959), without much success for its career.
