Sideman
A sideman (in the plural sidemans or sidemen ) is a professional Musicien whose services are necessary to record with a Groupe of music of which he is not permanent member. The sidemen are generally able to adapt to different musical genres according to the order. The goods sidemen sometimes are very required.
Often, but not always, they form then their own groups to make a career on their behalf: thus for example John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best which was sidemen of Tony Sheridan before forming the group The Beatles.
