Sid (“lord”), sidi (“my lord”) or sidna (“our lord”) is a title of male respect in the Arab dialects of the West and Égyptien. It is a deformation of the title Sayyid. Its use is similar to Mister.

Occasionally this title is used to mark its respect towards a member of the Muslim community by recognizing his importance or its wisdom.

With the kingdom of the Morocco:

  • Sidi ( Monseigneur or Lord ): the title was used like substitu with Moulay by the men of the Dynastie alaouite carrying the Mahomet first name.
  • Smiyet Sidi: Titrate given the sovereign or his parents, imperfectly translated by Monseigneur
  • If: equivalent of Mister , term of respect and courtesy.

In Tunisia:
In Arab Tunisian, the term has him even advanced in two alternatives:

  • If meaning Mister or Monseigneur
  • Sidi means Maître or Saint according to the context. For example in Tunisian the conservative mediums the women call their Sidi husband, not by their first name. In addition, the men like the women, call their (brothers) elder Sidi, and particuliairement when the difference in age is important.
  • Lella is the female equivalent in a social context, and Sayyeda when one speaks about Holinesses, for example: " (Es) - Sayyeda El-Manoubiyya".
