The Sichuan (四川 Sìchuān - Seutchouan - “Four rivers”, i.e. Mekong, Yangzi Jiang, Huang He, Salouen) is a province mid-west of the China, whose capital is Chengdu.

Languages

Sichuan is an area rich in languages. In addition to the sichuanais (Chinese dialect), one speaks there Tibetan, RGyalrong and Qiang in the west, in the areas of dKar-mdzes and rNga-Ba and Us in south-west. It is as in Sichuan as one speaks more the Guiqiong and the Horpa.

History

The oldest traces of civilization in China come from the culture of Sanxingdui (三星堆), which goes back to 1700-1000 av. JC. Thereafter, develop the Royaume of Ba (巴) in the area of Chongqing and the Royaume of Shu (蜀) in the area of Chengdu. The existence of Shu was unknown until the archaeological discoveries in 1986 in a small village called Sanxingdui (三星堆 Sān Xīng Duī), in the county of Guanghan.

Geography

Sichuan is a very mountainous area, and the access to this province was always difficult. A said Chinese proverb: “The way of Sichuan is more difficult than to go up to the sky (蜀道难于上青天). ” A second famous proverb (蜀犬吠日) referred to the time constantly cloudy of this province; the literal translation is: “With the country of Shu, the dog barks when the sun appears (the sun is similar with a foreigner that the dog forever considering). ”

Economy

Sichuan was historically known like the “attic with corn” of China. It is one of the principal Chinese provinces in term of agricultural production. The grain, including rice and corn, remains the most profitable production principal and, which placed China at the 1st rank in 1999. Commercial harvest includes citrus fruits, cane sugar, soft potato, fishing and the grape. Sichuan also has the broadest output of pig among all the provinces and the second greater output of cocoons of worms with silk in China during the year 1999. Sichuan is rich in resources with more than 132 types of minerals such as the Vanadium, the Titane and the Lithium which are most widespread in China. The area of the Panxi only has with it 13,3% of the iron reserves, titanium 93%, vanadium 69% and cobalt 83% of the entire country.

The art of cooking of Sichuan is famous for its spiced dishes, one finds for example “Poivre of Sichuan”.

One finds there reserves of Panda s.On also finds the famous one there pepper of Sichouan which is a small bay brown-red and which, in spite of its name, fact part of the family of lemons.
