The Sicanes were according to any probability the indigenous population of the large island of the the Western Mediterranean which is the Sicily, before the arrival of the Élymes and the Sicules from, before that also of the Phéniciens. A very old Mediterranean population thus, at the very least contemporary of the megalithic populations present in the Mediterranean during prehistory.
