Siaka Stevens (born the August 24th 1905 with Moyamba and deceased the May 29th 1988 with Freetown) was president of Sierra Leone during the year 1967 and of 1971 to the November 28th 1985.
Then union leader, it founds in 1960, the All People' S Congress (APC).
Whereas the country is into full political instability, of 1967 with 1968 four coups d'etat took place, it gains the first general elections in 1967. Its opponents dispute the course of these elections, the sergeant David Lansana organizes a coup d'etat and reverses it at the time when it lends oath. The former president, Albert Margai, turns over to his station.
The April 24th 1968, the lieutenant colonel Andrew Juxom-Smith organizes a consequence of State, Siaka Stevens returns to the capacity like Prime Minister.
It founds the Republic, the April 19th 1971. It is made elect triumphantly a few months later. And largely the parliamentary elections of 1973 gains.
It founds a mode with sole party in 1978. The APC is the only legal party, the opposition does not exist more.
It then starts to try to cleanse the political life, while fighting against corruption for example. But it quickly gives up this way to exploit the rich person mines of Diamant S of the country.
Vis-a-vis the crisis of the Years 1980 and with a disastrous management of the country, mainly due to the corruption and the illegal diamond export which enriches it enormously, it is constrained, the November 28th 1985, to leave the capacity to give it to Joseph Saidu Momoh.
He dies the May 29th 1988 in Freetown.
