Shuruppak
Shuruppak , also called Curuppag , is an old city sumérienne located in Mésopotamie. The significance of its name is not known. The supposed site of the city is localized with 175 kilometers in the south-east of Baghdad, and was excavated for the first time in 1902 by the Deutsche the East-Gesellschaft.
The town of Shuruppak was devoted to Ninlil, the goddess of the Blé and the air. The semi-legendary king sumérien ATU-Napishtim, sometimes regarded as the counterpart of Noah in the Mythology mésopotamienne, would have lived there. The Babylonian tradition places there also its hero Atrahasis, who is actually only the equivalent of ATU-Napishtim.
