Shukun-shô

The shukun-shô (殊勲賞) is one of the three Sanshô which a fighter Sumo during a tournament can receive. It rewards a exeptionnelle performence. It is generally allotted to a fighter who gains his combat vis-a-vis a Yokozuna, or vis-a-vis gaining tournament, as for any price, it is necessary there that the fighter has a majority of victories to be able to claim, and it is not rare that the shukun-shô is not allotted during a tournament.

Since 1947,127 different fighters gained at least a shukun-shô, the record being fellow-prisoner by Asashio and Kaio, with 10 shukun-shô between March 1980 and March 1983 for the first and between March 1994 and July 2000 for the second.
