Shufflepuck Coffee

Shufflepuck Cafe is a Simulation of Air Hockey published by Brøderbund Software in 1988. Drawn by Large Christopher, the play was initially developed in black and white on Macintosh before being declined colors on Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, MSDOS and Apple IIgs.
The play proceeds in a coffee of space where it is possible to face in duel various more or less original characters.

Gameplay

The player controls via his mouse a rectangular racket which is used to him to return a metal disc in the opposing side. The zone where it is possible to move the racket is limited and materializes by a squared zone energy of the beginning of the table of play with a quarter the length of that Ci. A point is gained to each time the metal disc crosses the opposing side without being stopped by the adversary. A noise of broken glass is then made hear, and the image takes the form of a fissured pane where the metal disc touched the limit of the ground.

According to the dash taken with the mouse, the speed of the metal disc is more or less high. This speed is not enough however always to pass unfavourable defense: the player is brought to use with dimensions ground to make rebound the metal disc and accentuate the difficulty of stopping his attack.

It is possible to configure the size of the racket, to make it more or less broad. A mode of play with obstacle is also accessible: the player then sees his action blocked by a wall located at the end of the zone it can move his racket. This wall generally prevents the frontal attacks. Its dispatcher can be configured, and one can choose to make or not it removable. Whenever the wall is mobile, it circulates from right to left while following the line marking the end of the camp of the player.

Adversaries

It is possible to face nine different adversaries equipped with particular characteristics:
  • Bejin : Only female character, the Bejin princess has psychic capacities which enable him to move the metal disc with without having has to touch there. She blinks eye when she marks a point and draws aside the arms to let see her chest when the part finishes.
  • Biff : Biff Raunch is a character massive, powerful, with the bad character. With Eneg and Bejin, it belongs to the characters most difficult to overcome play.
  • DC3 : The robot which is used as waiter in Shufflepuck Café can constitute an adversary. It is only used to be involved and is entirely configurable in the menu. It does not take part in the tournament.
  • Eneg : Extraterrestrial having the appearance of a Pig, Eneg is vêtu of a military uniform and often laughs with the court of the part.
  • Lexan : This lizard in costume and bow tie always holds with the hand a goblet of champagne which he drinks at each marked point. Through drinking alcohol plays to him of the turns.
  • Nerual : Does the character of Nerual hide his face behind a hood, but draws aside sometimes his tunic to let appear one (second?) face on the level of the abodmen.
  • Skip : Skip is a human young person 20 years to the passive play, it carries small glasses and has a broader racket than the other adversaries. It is weakest of the adversaries.
