Hang:
  • I am not a number. (probably inspired by the series the Prisoner …)
  • Attention, it unloads!

Ben Jahrvi (Fisher Stevens) was laid off of his post office to closing down of the business NOVA Robotics , considered as person in charge of the events of first film. He “was now established” in New York, and tries to assemble and sell miniature toys with the effigy of the robot Numéro 5… He collaborates by the force of the things with his friendly Fred Ritter (Michael McKean). By an amazing stroke of luck one of its toys is discovered by commercial Sandy Banatoni (Cynthia Gibb). Of 5 immediately it likes the design and she asks the duet creators a thousand of toys within a very tight time. Ben and Fred know pertinently that they will not be able to make a success of this feat of ingenuity…

Fortunately, the true Number/Johnny 5 is sent by Newton Crosby to help the two accomplices in their heavy task. It appears that thanks to its robot-like faculties, the times could be held (not to forget that Johnny 5 had already succeeded in building a double of itself real size in less than 5 minutes). All seems to be held for best until a gang of shadies carried out by Oscar Bladwin (Jack Weston) enters in scene. It projects to steal the diamonds sheltered in a bank on other side of the street. Oscar manages by the trick to gain the confidence of innocent Johnny 5. After which, it does not have any evil to ask him in a way diverted to help it in its flight (in fact to dig a tunnel…). During this time, Ben and Fred are isolated by the remainder from the gang and are locked up in the cold room of a Chinese restaurant. They owe their safety only with one stratagem of communication of Ben, who manages to inform Sandy of the place where they are retained.

At the same time Johnny comes to finish its work, and Oscar not needing more him, it seriously damages the robot thinking definitively of eliminating the only witness from the misdeed. However Johnny 5 is always alive, but its energy declines quickly. Fred finds Johnny, and realizes of the critical condition of the robot: its internal battery flees and it is constrained to come to assistance of Johnny 5 by repairing it in a shop of electronics. As soon as drawn from business, Johnny is avenged and put out of state to harm the gang after a long continuation in the streets and on the quays of New York. It seems more particularly mad by the treason of Oscar than it regarded as his best friend.

The final scene of film closes this short frankness by a scene presenting Johnny 5 new bright burning coal and plated gold , which lends oath and becomes American citizen with dimensions of Benjamin Jahrvi. Moreover, one learns that Fred, Sandy and Ben have a sharp success in the medium of the toy, and that a production with large scales of Johnny 5 miniatures is in hand.

Around film

  • In doubled French version, the voice of Number 5 is synthesized in a way appreciably acuter than for first film, although the actor is the same one. This in a probable attempt to be in conformity with the original version.
  • the van of Ben Jahrvi is supposed being an survivor of those used by NOVA Robotics . Although filmed in an intelligent way in order to mask the differences, it acts of a Ford Econoline, instead of the Chevrolet used in the original.
  • In the same way, the film is supposed to be held with New York, but the place of turning is not other than Toronto, with the Canada. The film is betrayed at the time of a scene or is clearly shown the World' S Biggest Bookstore , a bookstore having for reputation to be largest in the world, and which is actually located at Toronto…
  • the scenario is S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, scenario writers of the first Short Circuit , as well as in particular Tremors (1990) and Wild Wild West (1999).
