The shores depend on topography on the landscape surrounding and also erosion in particular that induced by the waves. The geological composition of the rock and the ground dictates the type of shore which is created. Although beach is synonymous with shore, the term refers typically to shores sandy or composed of rollers produced by the erosion of sedimentary grounds.

A shore is characterized various ways:

  • a sand beach or rollers

  • a bank (a more or less abrupt, generally covered bank)
  • of the salt-water marshes
  • a quay out of metal, concrete or wooden for the channels
  • of the ports or the quays of mooring

Definition of the shore

Generally, one qualifies the shore as being the border between the liquid element and the dry land, without precise borders being defined. In general, of most of shores are characterized by a variable watery ecosystem and a typical local vegetation.

It is the part of the ground which borders the Mer.
