Synopsis

1983, six years before the fall of the Berlin Wall, a train crosses the covered with snow countryside, Vassili Alexandrovitch Tchevtchenko, veteran of the Révolution of October and dignitary of the Soviet Union organized a hunting for the bear, in the surroundings of Krolòwka in Poland. In a nearby compartment, Evgueni Golozov evokes with a young framework of the Parti (a French interpreter), the course of Tchevtchenko, its first meeting with Lénine with the apogee of the Stalinist capacity.

The stay takes place in a de luxe hotel of State to dubious architecture. The guests arrive successively of different the Pays from the East, small ten people who all have important responsibilities in the apparatuses for State and which all had a big role in the construction of Soviet socialism. They constitute a kind of abstract network, of which one of the interests is the conservation of their functions and privileges. The meetings with the bar are the occasion to remember the last fights.

Arrive the day of the hunting, thoroughly organized by the old man Tchevtchenko, each one having an assigned place. It is stopped by the “accidental” death of Serguei Chavanidzé, the youngest member of the political office, killed of a ball by the innocent interpreter. It proves whereas this meeting of hunting is only the programmed make-up of the murder of a member to the awkward options.

Analyzes

In backdrop, it is the history of the Russian Révolution, of the evolution of certain frameworks at the most important stations and the relations between country “brothers” but the shooting party is the occasion to physically eliminate the successor from Tchevtchenko. The other guests, for the majority, are informed perfectly of the machination, let us know we it by some indiscretions, and none makes the least objection. The only participant to be revolted is threatened, him also, of elimination by the group.

Six years before the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the album can seem premonitory in the sense that it shows us a sclerosed apparatus, directed by men who cling to the capacity and the inherent privileges.

Collaboration between Pierre Christin and Enki Bilal started in 1975, with the publication of a first cartoon, the Cruising of forgotten the (1975), followed Vaisseau of stone (1976), of L has city which did not exist (1977), then, in 1979, of a political graphic novel, the Phalanges of the black Order .
