Shohei Maru

Shōhei Maru (Japanese: 昇平丸) was the first Japanese warship of Western style. The boat was ordered in 1854 and was enviyé with Edo in August 1855.

The Japanese probably took as a starting point the Dutch boats to come to such a level of construction. Shōhei Maru was little used by the troops shogunales and became then the possession of the troops of the Meiji government. The boat was then used to transport goods and for the development of the northern part of the island as Hokkaido. The boat was destroyed in a storm off this island the March 2nd 1870.
