Shoegazing

The term shoegazing or shoegaze describes a musical current pertaining to the alternative Rock, near to the current pop Dream . It appeared in the south of the England at the end of the Eighties.

Characteristics

The name, which would have been popularized by the New Musical Express train (NME), car its name of the English words “shoe” (shoe) and “gauze” (to look at) and would describe the tendency of the guitarists shoegazers to remain concentrated on their feet and their pedals of effects during their concerts. The sound of the shoegazers is actually dominated by the rhythmic sounds of guitars treated with many effects, such as the distortion and the Fuzz. The voices are often a little in withdrawal, but in spite of that, this musical genre is often characterized by a melody solid direction.

Groups and artists shoegazers

The sound shoegaze would have been established by the album Loveless of the Bloody Valentine (1991), although this point is prone to debates within the artists claiming shoegazing kind.

Groups such as Slowdive (from which the formation Mojave 3 is resulting), Ride, Spiritualized, Lush, The Boo Radleys, The Verve, Pale Saints, Drop Nineteens, Swervedriver, The Radio Dept, M83, Moose and Secret Shine (often regarded as the direct descendants of My Bloody Valentine) are regarded as shoegaze groups.

The other groups having strongly influenced this kind are The Velvet Underground, Cocteau Twins, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen 3, Dinosaur Jr or The Cure.
