Shirt rainbow
The shirt rainbow is the name given to the distinctive shirt which is given to the winner of a Championnat of the world of cycling whatever the discipline, on track, road, etc…
Its name comes from the resemblance to the rainbow but in fact it is about a white shirt with five circles with the colors of the UCI, blue, red, black, yellow and green These five colors represent the five continents just like the five rings olympiques.
Concerning the Championship of the world of cycling on road, one evokes sometimes the bad luck which often continued the carrier of the shirt rainbow.
Some examples:
- the Belgian Jean-Pierre Monseré deceased in race in 1971 whereas it carried the shirt rainbow.
- Irish Stephen Rock, one disastrous season old author 1988 after its triplet Turn of Italy - Tour de France - Championship of the world of 1987.
- Freddy Maertens, winner in 1981 and author of a great season, but which will never find its best level.
- French Laurent Brochard, blamed in the Affaire Feasted in 1998, whereas it carried the shirt rainbow.
- French Luc Leblanc, who carried his shirt rainbow for three different teams in one year. One of its teams (Grouping) would have even been related to a sect.
