Shirley Strickland
Shirley Barbara Strickland , then Shirley Strickland of Hunty , born the July 18th 1925 and deceased the February 11th 2004, was a Athlète Australia. It is the athlete of Australia to have gained the most Olympic medals.
Biography
Strickland was born with Perth in Australia Western and graduate from the University off Western Australia in science in 1945 and physics in 1946. It is not that in 1947 qu ' it concentrated, successfully, on the athletics. National champion in 1948 on 80 m hedges, it belonged to the Australian delegation to the Olympic Games of summer of 1948 with London. Over there, it gained bronze over 100 m and 80 m hedges and the money in relay 4 X 100 m with June Maston, Elizabeth McKinnon and Joyce King.After having gained three gold medals with the plays of the British Empire of 1950, it gained its first Olympic title with the Olympic Games of 1952 with Helsinki. It gained on 80 m hedges by improving the world records (10" 9). A bad passage of witness cost him certainly the title out of relay 4 X 100 Mr. Out of 100 m, it still finished third.
In 1955, it beat the record of the 100 in 11" 3 and with the Olympic Games of 1956 with Melbourne, it gained the title over 80 m hedges and out of relay with Norma Croker, Fleur Mellor and Betty Cuthbert.
She is carried the Olympic torch at the time of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games of 2000 to Sydney. She carried the torch in the stage at the time of the last section little before Cathy Freeman does not light the Olympic flame.
Its body was found on February 16th, 2004 on the ground of its kitchen with elements proving that she had died five days earlier, the evening of February 11th. There was no thorough autopsy and the medical examiner says that the cause was dubious even if the family evoked a Myocardial infarction caused by the stress.
