Shirak

Shirak , or Chirak (in Armenian Շիրակի , and Russian Ширак ) is the name of a Armenian province .

Geography

The area of Shirak is located at the North-West of the Arménie, with for capital Gyumri, the second city of the country and the first of the area. It is frontier of two countries, the Turkey in the west and the Georgia in north. It is also bordered by the areas of Lorri in the east, and of Aragatsotn in the south. The other towns of Shirak are mainly: Artik, Maralik, Metz Mantach, Akhurian, Ashotsk, etc…

History

The ancient Histoire of Shirak is similar to his/her cousin of the Valley of Ararat, founded in the legend for some, but of the Archéologue S found the evidence that the area was populated 250.000 years ago, with payments emerging along the Vallée of Akhurian beginning 9000 av. The area of Shirak has beautiful monuments. We can quote the monasteries of Marmashen, Aroutj and Lmpat. They date from the Moyen-âge. Marmashen is composed of two churches and three others in ruins. The whole at summer built between the 10th S and the 13th century, the same thing for Aroutj. Lmpat is older, it was built 6th at the 10th century. These three places were very known with the Middle Ages, and they form a great testimony of the Armenian architecture of this time.
