Assas is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants are called the " Assadins".

Geography

Located has a few kilometers in the north of Montpellier, Assas côtoie Saint-Vincent-with-Barbeyrargues, Guzargues, Clapiers, Jacou, Castries and Teyran. Traversed many brooks, Assas can be regarded as an irrigated village. The vegetation is changing. One of course finds there scrubland, but also shaded glazing bar where push in autumn of mushrooms. The brooks are framed of thicket of trees which bring shade and freshness in summer. The village of Assas is organized around the castle, high at the top of a hill, following the example many villages of Herault. The old village is small but vain. The streets fresh, clean and are well maintained there. Window of the houses, one sees hanging flowers out of pot which bring keys of colors on the beige bottom that the stones constitute.

Tourist monuments and places

in Assas

  • Castle of Assas, madness montpellierraine of the XVIIIe century, allotted to the architect Jean-Antoine Giral (1700-1787), and built into 1759/1760, on the ruins of the feudal castle. Deprived, it can be visited on request or at the time of the days of the inheritance. A harpsichord of the XVIIIe century is preserved in the castle where frequently the harpsichordist Scott Ross remained (1951-1989), who will die in Assas.
    Le castle was used as framework for the turning of Beautiful Noiseuse, film of Jacques Rivette (1991).
