Shinjuku
Shinjuku (新宿区, Shinjuku-ku ) is one of the 23 " districts spéciaux" (区, ku ) founded in 1947 to replace the municipality of Tōkyō. In 2005, its population was of 302 287 people for a surface of 18.23 km ². It is there that is the government of the Préfecture of Tōkyō.
Shinjuku is the district of Tokyo cash the greatest number from abroad. At October 1st, 2005, one counted 29.353 of 107 different nationalities of them. They are initially natives of Korea (of North and the South) of China, of France, of Myanmar, and Philippines.
Shinjuku is one of the most animated districts of Tōkyō, but also a high place of the businesses sheltering the seat of many large companies. Among the department stores of Japan, Isetan, Keiō, Odakyu, Marui, Mitsukoshi, Seibu, Takashimaya, and Tokyu are there. One finds there also international cinemas, restaurants, bars, and hotels. The railway station of Shinjuku is attended in the world after that of Nagoya.
Geography
The districts bordering on Shinjuku are: Chiyoda in the east; Bunkyō and Toshima in north; Nakano in the west, and Shibuya and Minato in the south. Nerima is a hundred meters. The culminating point of Shinjuku is the hill of Hakone, 44.6m, in the Toyama park in the east of the stations of Takadanobaba and Shin-Okubo. The point low is 4.2m close to Iidabashi.In the west of the station Nishi-shinjuku (Shinjuku western) is, where the metropolitan government of Tōkyō ((東京都庁舎, Tōkyō-to Chōsha or Tōchō, the " are located; mairie" power station). The building of the town hall, started in 1988 and completed in 1991, formed of two twin towers of 48 stages, was most of the city (242.9 meters) until 2006. It was conceived by the architect Kenzo Tange and the access to the two turns is free and free. The observatory, 202 meters, allows to discover very beautiful overall pictures of the east of Tōkyō and also south-west, towards the Mont Fuji (when the weather allows it).
The surroundings of the town hall are primarily made up of Gratte-ciel, like the Shinjuku Park Tower or the tower Tōkyō Opera City.

Government
Like the other districts of Tōkyō, Shinjuku has a statute equivalent to a municipality. In 2005, the mayor is Mrs. Hiroko Nakayama. The kugikai (council) is composed of 38 elected members. The address of the town hall is 1-4-1 Kabukicho.

There are several stations in the district and among them, the station of JR Is Shinjuku, which sees more than two million passengers per day, is the principal station.
